KSRTC staff help woman in labour

Win applause for their timely act

In an act reflecting their humanity and presence of mind, the staff of a Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus from Chadayamangalam diverted their trip midway to take a pregnant passenger to the hospital after she developed pain during the journey.

K.Gireesh, the driver of the bus and Sajan K. John, the conductor, has won plaudits from the KSRTC Chairman as well as the State Women’s Commission for their timely act.

The woman and her her husband boarded the bus from Ayoor on Monday. She began experiencing pain when the bus reached near Vattappara. Sensing that she needed immediate help, the bus staff decided to take the bus straight to the Sree Avittom Thirunal Hospital in Thiruvananthapuram.

A policeman, who was on the bus, informed the police control room and steps were soon initiated to control the traffic and keep the way clear for the bus, on the way to the hospital.

The other passengers also chipped in, waving and alerting vehicles and deciding not to get down at their stops, so as not to delay the trip to the hospital.

The Women’s Commission lauded the driver and the conductor.
