KMCC to distribute Rs.75 lakh as relief

Leaders of the organisation said here on Tuesday that Chief Minister Oommen Chandy would hand over the aid to the selected families at the 35th anniversary celebrations.

Offering a total financial aid of Rs.75 lakh, the Saudi National Committee of the Kerala Muslim Cultural Centre (KMCC) will come to the support of 15 families from various parts of Kerala who lost their breadwinners in various incidents abroad.

Leaders of the organisation said here on Tuesday that Chief Minister Oommen Chandy would hand over the aid to the selected families at the 35th anniversary celebrations of the organisation in Malappuram on November 7. The families were selected for the aid under a special social security scheme of the KMCC.

Ashraf Vengad, general secretary of KMCC’s Saudi national committee, said each family would get Rs.5 lakh, which was mobilised by the members of the association and their families.

He said the association had similar initiatives for the relief of people in the coastal areas and for the treatment of financially backward patients irrespective of their religion or caste.

Industries Minister P.K. Kunhalikutty, Minister for Non-Resident Keralites Affairs K.C. Joseph and senior leaders of the Indian Union Muslim League would also attend the function. The KMCC would also host Pravasi meets, investment seminars, and open forums to discuss the issues of the expatriate community as part of the anniversary celebrations.
