Prominent writers and social activists will meet Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and Minister for Welfare of Scheduled Tribes P.K. Jayalakshmi here on Thursday to explore ways to end the tribal land stir.

At a press conference here on Wednesday, writer Sara Joseph and social activists B.R.P. Bhaskar, K. Ajitha, and Kusumam Joseph said the Chief Minister had agreed to meet them and leaders of the Adivasi Gothra Maha Sabha (AGMS), which is currently leading a ‘stand up’ stir in front of the Secretariat. The AGMS had launched the stir seeking implementation of the tribal land package announced by the A.K. Antony government in 2003.

The strike entered the 50th day on Wednesday.

Ms. Joseph, who had earlier called on the Adivasis participating in the agitation, said the forestland bought from the Aralam farm with the fund allotted for Adivasis was being used for pineapple cultivation by big farmers.
