Kadammanitta remembered, Baby inaugurates day-long celebrations

The richness of the poems of Kadammanitta Ramakrishnan lies in its rustic glory and great philosophy that makes the poet and his literary creations immortal, said former Education Minister, M.A. Baby.

Mr Baby was inaugurating the day-long Kadammanitta Ramakrishnan commemoration celebrations at the Kadammanitta Smriti Mandapam at Kadammanitta near Pathanamthitta on Saturday.

The Kadammanitta Ramakrishnan Foundation has organised the celebrations. Dr B. Iqbal, foundation chairman, presided the function.

Mr Baby and Dr Iqbal also offered floral tributes to the late poet at the Smriti Mandapam, earlier.

Santha Ramakrishnan, poet’s wife; V.K. Purushothaman Pillai, M.R. Gopinath, K. Haridas, T.K.G. Nair, K.S. Ravikumar, Kadammanitta Vasudevan Pillai, and Fr K.T. Mathewkutty, all foundation office-bearers, were also present.

Poetry writing by school children, ‘Kavyarchana’, was held at the Smriti Mandapam, later, at 11 am. Malayalam poets, Girish Puliyoor, Kanimol, Vazhamuttom Mohan, and Unnikrishnan Poozhikkad, also took part in the ‘Kavyarchana’.

K.N. Balagopal, MP, inaugurated the newly constructed concrete road leading to the Smriti Mandapam. The road was constructed with the Rs 5 lakhs allotted for the same by Mr Balagopal from his local area development fund.

Comemmoration meet

Mr Anto Antony, MP, inaugurated the commemoration meet held, later, in the afternoon. Dr Iqbal presided over the function.

Mr Balagopal, K. Sivadasan Nair, Raju Abraham, MLAs; V.N. Murali, Purogamana Kala Sahitya Sanghom State secretary; Cherukunnam Purushothaman, Ravikumar, Prof Kadammanitta Vasudevan Pillai, Haridas, R. Bhadran, T.K.G. Nair, Fr K.T. Mathewkutty , and Santha Ramakrishnan, foundation office-bearers, also addressed the meet.

Drama

The Kadammanitta-based Gothra Kala Kalari has staged a drama based on various poems of Kadammanitta Ramakrishnan, later.
