Probe into blood stains found in college

The police have launched efforts to retrieve CCTV footage from various rooms of Nehru College of Engineering and Research Centre, Pambadi, in connection with death of Jishnu Pranoy, a student there.

The CCTV footage was allegedly destroyed by the authorities. However, the police are trying to retrieve them from the hard disk with the support of the Forensic Department and the cyber cell.

The forensic wing has started examination of blood stains found at various rooms in the college, including those of the Vice-Principal and the public relations officer (PRO), who are accused in the case.

The police are investigating whether the blood samples found are of Jishnu. The police consider that Jishnu was subjected to harassment on the day he committed suicide.

The investigation report submitted by the police at the court ruled out allegations of the college authorities that Jishnu was caught copying during examination. The post-mortem examination report had revealed injuries on his body.

Meanwhile, there was allegation that Nehru College chairman P. Krishnadas misguided the High Court to get interim bail.

He told the court that he had to attend a meeting convened by the District Collector to solve the issue. However, relatives of Jishnu alleged that the meeting was already held on February 15 and a decision to reopen the college on Friday was taken.

Lookout notices will be issued to find the five accused, including Nehru College chairman Krishnadas, in connection with Jishnu death. Circular will be issued at airports to keep vigil.

The police have registered non-bailable offences against five persons in Jishnu case. Krishnadas is the first accused. Vice-Principal N.K. Sakthivel, examination invigilator C.P. Praveen, PRO Sanjith Viswanathan, and teacher Dipin were the other accused.

The police have charged Section 120 B (criminal conspiracy); Section 306 (abetment of suicide ); Section 384 (Extortion); Section 465 (Forgery); and Section 468 (Forgery for purpose of cheating ) against the accused. However, all of them are absconding.

The police alleged that the college authorities conspired and forged allegations of copying against Jishnu as they had previous animosity against him.

The college, which was closed following the death of Jishnu, reopened on Friday. A meeting convened by the Thrissur District Collector took a decision to reopen the college. Students paid homage to Jishnu.
