As many as 298 prisoners in the State will appear for the examinations being held as part of the Jail Jyothi literacy scheme of the Kerala State Literacy Mission Authority on Saturday.
The scheme aims at making all prisoners in jails literate. This is the first literacy examination to be held as part of Jail Jyothi.
In Thiruvananthapuram, 122 prisoners will sit for the examinations. As many as 60 are from Central jail, seven from women’s jail, 30 from the special jail, and 25 from the district jail.

Women prisoners will appear for the examination in Ernakulam too. Of the total nine prisoners who will take the examination, two are women.
Thirteen prisoners will sit for the examinations in Kottayam, 25 in Thrissur, 29 in Palakkad, 30 in Malappuram, 15 in Kannur, 33 in Kasaragod, and 22 in Wayanad. They will be tested in reading, writing, and mathematics. Those who have not attended school will become eligible for further education through the literacy examination. Jail Jyothi is being implemented in 56 jails in the State.
