In-principle nod for schemes for endosulfan victims

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said on Wednesday that all projects proposed by the government for relief and remediation of endosulfan victims in Kasaragod district would be taken up.

Briefing the media, the Chief Minister said that the Cabinet had approved expenditure on all the proposals in-principle. The Chief Secretary had been asked to submit a report regarding funding arrangements, including that for payment of compensation, at the next meeting of the Cabinet for a decision.

Mr. Chandy said that he would be visiting Kasaragod district on Thursday.

The mothers of the victims are on an agitation in the district, noting that most of the assurances of assistance by successive governments had remained on paper. The district observed a hartal on Wednesday over the issue.
