Dr. Rajendran Raja, renowned India-born physicist, passed away at his home in Illinois, USA, on February 15, his family members said in Kozhikode on Wednesday. He was 68.
Dr. Rajendran obtained his PhD in Physics from the Cavendish Laboratory, University of Cambridge, England, and was inducted as a Fellow of Trinity College, Cambridge in 1973.
As a physicist at Fermilab for more than two decades, Dr. Rajendran contributed more than 300 articles in professional journals and played a leading role in the discovery of the Top Quark. He has worked closely with two Nobel laureates.

Dr. Rajendran is survived by his wife Selitha (née Freundorfer) Raja, daughter Dr. Anjali (Aaron) Raja Beharelle and sister Dr. Paru Sharma.
He was born on July 14 ,1948, in Guruvayur, Kerala, to the late Dr. P. K. S. Raja of Thiruvannur Puthiya Kovilakam in Kozhikode and the late S Chandramathi Nair , a native of Guruvayur.
