Hundreds take part in LGBTQ pride parade

9th edition of the Kerala Queer Pride march in Thrissur

The procession held in Thrissur on Sunday as part of the Kerala queer pride by the LGBTQcommunity members.

Hundreds of people, mostly youngsters, rallied on the streets of Thrissur city on Sunday as part of the 9th edition of the Kerala Queer Pride march.

Waving rainbow flags, more than 700 people, mostly members of the LGBTQ (Lesbian, gay, bisexuals, transgender & Queer), danced through the Swaraj Round, asserting their identity and declaring the freedom of public place.

Over the past few years, the Kerala Queer Pride has become a platform for sexual minorities to come together.

Better visibility

The collective also provided better visibility and support for fighting for the human rights of the community members.

A seminar on ‘Article 377 and Media’ was held on Sunday as part of the programme.

The seminar raised concern over the way LGBTQ communities have been portrayed in news reports.

Allegations

The community is not getting deserving share of space and their problems are not being represented properly, many of the speakers alleged.
