Higher secondary teachers' protest

August 22, 2011 07:33 pm | Updated 07:34 pm IST - KANNUR:

The Kerala Higher Secondary Teachers' Federation (KHSTF) staged a demonstration in front of the Collectorate here to raise their demands including creation of vacancies and payment of salary.

The KHSTF has been on an indefinite strike since August 18 raising the demands.

A press release issued by the KHSTF said that during the last phase of the previous Left Democratic Front (LDF) government's rule, 178 schools had been granted Plus Two courses considering the educational backwardness of the Malabar region. In the aided sector, it was ordered to appoint guest teachers to handle the Plus Two classes. The 1600-odd teachers thus appointed had been working without salary since August 13, 2010. But neither the LDF government nor the current United Democratic Front government had taken initiative to create permanent vacancies, the release said.
