Sea surge in several areas in Kasaragod

The sea surge witnessed on the Kasaba beach in Kasaragod on Monday.

Heavy rain continued to batter Kasaragod on Monday, damaging property in several areas in district.

The district, which received 35.40 mm of rainfall during the last 24 hours ending 10 a.m. on Monday, has so far registered a cumulative 1,601.41 mm rainfall since the onset of monsoon.

In view of the heavy rainfall, educational institutions in Vellarikundu taluk declared a holiday in the afternoon on Monday.

Occupants of two residential units on the Musodi beach, near Manjeswaram, were shifted to safety. Sea water surged into two houses on the Cherangai beach in Kasaragod.

As many as 20 coconut palms on the Janma beach at Uduma were uprooted in the sea surge.

Three houses at Kallar village in Vellarikundu taluk suffered damages. One house was damaged at Kidur village in Manjeswaram.

A building adjoining the Kodiyamma juma masjid at Manjeswaram suffered partial damages.

The loss is estimated at ₹ 75,000, official sources here said.

Major rivers in the district remained flooded.
