The government’s decision to seek legal opinion from a former judge of the Supreme Court on the solar judicial commission report is nothing but a testimony to its grave flaws in the hasty action taken on the report, former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has said.
Mr. Chandy was talking to reporters during his visit to the district to attend a series of Congress meetings on Thursday.
The government had decided to approach former judge Arijit Pasayat to see whether the commission had deviated from the terms of reference. Mr. Chandy alleged that the government decision to seek yet another legal opinion clearly showed that its hasty decision taken on the eve of the Vengara Assembly bypoll was ‘politically motivated’.

However, he welcomed the decision to table the report in the Assembly. Though the government had rejected the request for a copy of the report, it was left with no other option but to make it public, he said.
He said the government decision to seek legal opinion justified the Congress stand that the report was unilateral and politically motivated and not to speak of its deviation from the terms of reference.
Addressing party workers, Mr. Chandy said the people of Kerala were a dejected lot with the ever shooting price of essential commodities, growing crime graph, and absence of law and order. The people had started thinking of the good old days of the UDF rule in the State, he said.
