Governor hails Operation Anantha

The Operation Anantha has helped to mitigate flood to a great extent in Thiruvananthapuram city, the Governor P. Sathasivam has said.

Delivering the customary address at the Legislative Assembly on Friday, Mr. Sathasivam said that the city has not witnessed a single instance of flooding in Thampanoor or Pazhavangadi despite heavy rains during the last six months.

He said 30 kilometres of canals and stormwater drains have been desilted and widened up to 3.5 metres According to him, various State governments, the Swachh Bharat Mission, National Disaster Management Authority and academic institutions such as the IITs and the IISc have shown a keen interest in understanding the efforts undertaken in Thiruvananthapuram in the background of the Chennai floods. Operation Anantha was implemented to reclaim water bodies in Kannur and to remove encroachments in Palakkad.
