Says it is integral for development

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said the government was trying to ensure the cooperation of all sections in laying the GAIL pipeline that was integral for the development of the State.

The police may have to act against those trying to impede development initiatives, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has said.

Replying to a submission in the Assembly on Wednesday by V.T. Balram on laying GAIL pipeline, Mr. Vijayan said the government was trying to ensure the cooperation of all sections in laying the pipeline that was integral for the development of the State.

Referring to protests in Palakkad, Mr. Vijayan said Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) workers had blocked the work and the police had to disperse the protesters. The attempt was not due to lack of awareness but due to their peculiar concept about it. The High Court had ordered the police to give protection to the work and it would continue, he said.
