For once, UDF and LDF put up a united front at the council

It is not often that one gets to see acts of unity between the councillors of the ruling LDF and the opposition UDF in the city Corporation. Usually, the council meetings are stopped abruptly within an hour following verbal duels between the councillors over one issue or the other. But, last week was an exception as all the councillors put up a rare show of unity against a common adversary – a contractors’ union leader who had made an allegation of corruption against the local body councillors. Unsure of which way the finger is pointing, all of the councillors decided to stick together and get a resolution passed against the union leader.

Former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam had on numerous occasions stressed the role of the youth in the nation-building process. In a befitting manner, a training programme organised by the Kerala State Youth Commission for its volunteers on Tuesday was filled with memories of Mr. Kalam.

The speakers recalled various examples from the life of Mr. Kalam.

One can only hope that the attentive volunteers drew inspiration from the words to uphold the teachings of the Missile Man.
