Fake currency seized from Taliparamba

The police seized Rs. 9 lakh of fake currency notes from a three-member group near Taliparamba here on Sunday.

The police said that wads of fake Indian currency notes of Rs. 1000 denomination totalling Rs. 8,96,000 were found padded around waists of the three men who were travelling in a car going to Kannur. The arrested are V.P. Pradeep Kumar (42) of Pilathara here, Kamal Umar (42) of Kanhangad in Kasaragod and M.P. Ashish of Chovva here. The police intercepted the car (KL13 J 1084) on the National Highway at Kuttikkol at around 2 p.m. following a tip-off.

According to the police, it took some time for the police to examine the counterfeit currency as they looked original. The arrested are suspected to be part of a network engaged in circulating fake notes in the region. The network would be unravelled after their questioning, police added.
