Expert team visits Mullaperiyar

An expert team from the Central Water and Power Research Station, Pune, visiting the Mullaperiyar dam on Friday to asses the areas for conducting further tests to analyse the present condition of the dam.

An expert team from Pune-based Central Water and Power Research Station (CWPRS) on Friday visited the Mullaperiyar dam to assess the areas for conducting further tests which will begin on September 26.

A senior official of the Irrigation Department told The Hindu that the team was at the dam site to finalise the areas for conducting three more tests this month.

The official said the tests to be conducted were ultra sound test, lazar test to draw up details of the seepage line, and the borehole test to collect details of materials and their strength.

The bore holes would be drilled on spots marked in agreement with the Irrigation Department of Kerala, the official said. The expert team comprised technical officers and their assistants, the official said.
