Excise officials on Wednesday busted a racket selling cheap Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL) and narcotic drugs following a raid at a house at the Subhas Nagar locality, near Kumbla, on Wednesday night.
A six-member excise team from the Kumbla range office was brutally assaulted during the raid.
The excise team, led by inspector P.J. Robin Babu, raided the house at 8.15 p.m.

IMFL and drugs
As the officials seized 47 litres of IMFL in 180-ml bottles and 10 kg of narcotic drugs, a group of people, including women, attacked them under the cover of darkness and managed to flee with the seized materials in an autorickshaw, excise sources said.
Mr. Babu, hailing from Kottayam, was brutally attacked and his prosthetic limb was snatched away by miscreants. Mr. Babu had to amputate one of his legs following a motorbike accident in 2001. On a complaint, the Kumbla police arrested Pradeep alias Rajesh, alleged to be the kingpin of the racket.

He was charged under various provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the Abkari Act, Mr. Babu told The Hindu on Thursday.
