Elephant found dead in Munnar

A female wild elephant was found dead in field number 18 of the Kanan Devan Hills Plantations’ south division at Nallathanni in Munnar on Wednesday morning.

The carcass of the elephant was first noticed by the workers of the tea plantation who informed the Munnar Divisional Forest Office. There were wounds all over the animal’s body. A top official of the Forest Department told The Hindu that the presence of a tusker had been noted near the marshy area where the body of the elephant was found. It was possible that it had been killed in a fight. Munnar range officer M.J. Joseph said the elephant was 10 years old. .
