Elders Day celebrated

The International Day of Older Persons was celebrated enthusiastically across the district on Thursday. A wide variety of programmes were conducted at almost all panchayats and municipalities. School and colleges too joined the celebrations.

 Nilambur municipality led the celebrations by holding a massive gathering of elderly persons. They sang, recited poems and presented mimicry to enliven the programme.

 Inaugurating the celebrations, Nilambur municipal chairman Aryadan Shoukath said that senior citizens should be given the Orient’s respect and the West’s legal protection.

 The National Service Scheme (NSS) unit at Government College here celebrated the day by honouring former teachers and students. Retired teachers and former students joined hands with the current batch of students in the programme titled ‘Caring those who Cared’.

 The children of Al Furqan Public School, Wandoor, spent their day with the inmates of Santhi Sadan at Chokad. The children lunched with the elders at the old-age home.
