Politicians, actors, nurses join the list

Actor Mammootty handing over a cheque for ₹15 lakh to Ernakulam District Collector K. Mohammed Y. Safirulla towards the Chief Minister’s relief fund on Monday.

Donations are pouring in from across the State for the victims of the recent floods in Kerala.

Ministers Mathew T. Thomas, A.C. Moideen, V.S. Sunil Kumar, Ramachandran Kadannapally, O. Rajagopal MLA, KPCC president M.M. Hassan, senior Congress leader V.M. Sudheeran and the CPI State council are among those who have donated to the Chief Minister’s relief fund.

Nurses offer service

The United Nurses Association (UNA) has pledged ₹11 lakh to the relief fund to help flood victims. A pressnote issued by the association said nurses would offer their services in the flood-hit districts. It added that the Onam celebrations of the association would be cancelled and the funds diverted for relief activities.

 

NoRKA Roots has appealed to expatriate Keralites to donate to the relief efforts. Cheques and drafts will be accepted at the NoRKA offices in Mumbai, Chennai, Delhi, Baroda, Bengaluru and Hyderabad. Congress leader Oommen Chandy has urged the government for a master plan to prepare the rehabilitation package for victims and a task force to implement it. In a letter to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, he said the magnitude of the floods called for an integrated approach to the reconstruction activities.

Mammootty’s donation

Meanwhile in Kochi, actors Mammootty and Dulquer Salmaan contributed ₹15 lakh and ₹10 lakh respectively towards the Chief Minister’s relief fund. Mr. Mammootty handed over the cheques to K. Mohammed Y. Safirulla, Ernakulam District Collector.
