District Panchayat president opens seminar as part of Seethalayam

The District Panchayat president, Babu George, has said that the organisers of various awareness programmes should see to it that their awareness campaign should not be restricted to seminars alone.

Mr George was inaugurating a seminar held in connection with the Seethalayam programme of the Homoeopathy Department at Pandalam on Tuesday.

He said the Seethalayam programme was aimed at empowerment of women’s mental, physical and social health.

A majority of ladies were facing physical and mental torture in domestic and social environment. Domestic tortures were mainly due to dowry related issues, nuclear family constrains and liquor and drug abuse. Increasing incidence of suicidal tendencies in women was reportedly attributed to their family problems, mental illness, physical illness and financial problems, Mr George said.

G. Rajendraprasad, District Medical Officer, (Homoeo); Pandalam Prathaan, grama panchayat president and Kumari Anitha, Seethalayalam co-ordinator, also spoke.
