Kerala Congress (B) leader R. Balakrishna Pillai has said that he will not go to the extent of alleging that Chief Minister Oommen Chandy is corrupt.
But the paradox is that without Mr. Chandy’s knowledge, no government-level corruption could take place and it was no secret that the most-corrupt Cabinet was ruling the State, Mr. Pillai said this while addressing a symposium series ‘Kerala Rashtreeyam Engottu’ organised by Kollam Press Club on Saturday.
He said the political climate in Kerala was at its worst and if allowed to continue in this manner, it would erode the self-respect of the people. ‘‘There is no administration in the State now,’’ he said.

Mr. Pillai said the United Democratic Front (UDF) is dead. ‘‘After Mr. Chandy, there will not be a khadar-clad Chief Minister in Kerala for a long time to come.” All development activities in the State were in crisis and yet Public Works Minister V.K. Ebrahim Kunju said Rs.3,831 had been allocated for the development activities for the next two years.
On dues to contractors
“Where is the money for such allocations when the government owes more than Rs.2,800 crore to contractors carrying out the works? The contractors have stopped all the work midway. When the government has no money, there is no dearth of announcements that crores of rupees are being allocated for development. All this is to fool the people,’’ he said.
