Desperate attempts of VS, says IUML

February 08, 2013 01:16 am | Updated November 16, 2021 10:13 pm IST - MALAPPURAM:

The Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) has said that the news being spread in connection with the Kozhikode ice-cream parlour sex racket case is nothing but desperate attempts of Leader of the Opposition V.S. Achuthanandan to tarnish the image of P.K. Kunhalikutty.

Addressing newspersons here on Thursday evening, IUML State general secretary K.P.A. Majeed and State secretary E.T. Mohammed Basheer, MP, said the news being spread against IUML leader and Minister for Industries P.K. Kunhalikutty was part of a deliberate plot to tarnish him. Mr. Achuthanandan and K.A. Rauf are working in close association, they said.

The IUML leaders said that they too had copies of the sex racket investigation report. “A section of the media is trying to make big news out of a portion of the report,” they said.

Quoting the report, they said that the victims had said that they testified against Mr. Kunhalikutty under pressure from Mr. Rauf. “The statements of the victims…, in fact, throw light on the conspiracy aspect of the case,” they said.

Mr. Basheer said the IUML had opposed giving a copy of the investigation report to Mr. Achuthanandan not out of fear. “We opposed it because we never wanted it to affect the proceedings of the case,” he said.

The IUML leaders declined to comment on the allegations against Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman P.J. Kurien in the light of the re-emergence of the Suryanelli sex racket case.
