Think painting is not everyone’s cup of tea? Well the array of mural art, oil landscapes and acrylic portraits on show at the Museum auditorium in the capital should go to prove any such doubt is misplaced.
The exhibits on display at the auditorium, the creations of amateur artists whose age range from 6 to 60, reflect minds that are inclined in the way of creative expression.
The quality of some of the works on display might look below par, but the honest urge to create images on canvas is clearly in evidence in each of the paintings on display.

The varying postures of Lord Vishnu, an unusually conceived dance posture of Lord Siva, the volatile forms of Ganesha and an ambitious recreation of the celebrated ‘Mona Lisa’ are some of the paintings of interest at the exhibition.
Guests to the show are welcomed by a painting of a woman with her baby.
Says Deepak Mouthattil, sand sculptor, who has taken the lead in organising the exhibition, “These paintings tell you that anyone can learn to paint if they want to.”

He had started out by training tiny tots to draw and paint and was soon joined by people of different ages, adding a splash of colour to their thoughts. The exhibition, Mr. Deepak says, was organised to boost the confidence of aspiring artists and to show that with proper guidance, even amateurs can carve a niche for themselves beside the masters.
