Dark forces hounded me: Pinarayi

August 23, 2017 06:26 pm | Updated 06:26 pm IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has said that he was hounded by ‘some dark forces’ all through even as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) tried to hunt him down.

“I am happy that the High Court could zero in on the political conspiracy (behind this case). It is clear that many had a political motive. We all know that many were waiting for this day. The Court became convinced about this when it received anonymous letters once the case was posted for judgment. Some dark forces had always hounded me. They must be deeply disappointed now,” Mr. Vijayan told reporters while reacting to the High Court judgment here on Wednesday.

From the beginning, Mr. Vijayan said the attempt was to hound the CPI(M) keeping him as the prime target. The Vigilance investigation ordered by the UDF government did not throw up any evidence against him. The CBI too could not find anything in the files to implicate him. However, there was political pressure on the CBI to hound him. The CBI Court had examined all aspects of the case when discharging him. All these were at different stages when the truth was becoming increasingly clear. “From available information, the High Court too has come the conclusion that I was made a scapegoat. I am happy that the truth has finally prevailed,” he added.

The Chief Minister said he had always held the judiciary in high regard. With the present verdict, his faith in the judiciary had become stronger. The people had already seen the truth and this was reflected in the people’s verdict. It was heartening that the High Court too had seen it after a close examination of all aspects of the case. The verdict would give him the energy to carry on with the development agenda of the government, he added.
