CPI(M) should tolerate opponents: Chandy

Pathanamthitta DCC’s Vikasana Sandesh Yatra concludes

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy inaugurating a public meeting held in connection with the valedictory function of the five-day Vikasana Sandesh Yatra led by P. Mohanraj, District Congress Committee president, in Pathanamthitta on Tuesday evening.

It was high time the CPI(M) pursued a policy of tolerance towards its political opponents, according to the Chief Minister Oommen Chandy.

Mr. Chandy was inaugurating a public meeting held in connection with the valedictory function of the five-day Vikasana Sandesh Yatra that was led by DCC president P. Mohanraj here on Tuesday evening.

Mr. Chandy said the State government had taken the decision in favour of an inquiry by the CBI into the T.P. Chandrashekharan murder case on the basis of a letter received in this regard from the Leader of the Opposition V. S. Achuthanandan.

How could a democratically elected government sideline a genuine demand put forward by the Leader of the Opposition, Mr. Chandy said.

The Chief Minister asked the CPI(M) whether it was against the demand put forward by the Leader of the Opposition or not.

It was not fair on the part of the CPI(M) to blame the government for recommending a CBI probe into the murder case, Mr. Chandy added.
