Communist Party of India (Marxist) district secretary P. Jayarajan has urged Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president Ramesh Chennithala to pay a visit to the district to see the "violence being instigated by League extremists".
In an open letter to Mr. Chennithala, the copies of which were distributed among mediapersons at a press conference by the CPI(M) leader here on Monday, Mr. Jayarajan said that the KPCC president should be convinced of the truth of the attacks. He said that parties such as the Congress should not take a stand that strengthened religious extremism.
The open letter, arguably first such missive to have been sent by a CPI(M) leader here to the KPCC president, also told Mr. Chennithala that the troubles in the district would be brought to an end if he could control his colleagues and rank and file in the party.

Mr. Jayarajan also asked the KPCC president to express his views on a series of attacks carried out by the ‘League extremists' after the peace meeting held at the Collectorate here on February 23. He said that the IUML in the district was still holding the key that would unleash violence.
Police records showed that incidents of attacks, under the guise of moral policing, and on police officers were grave. The ‘League extremists' who had placed a hoarding displaying in public a death threat against CPI(M) leaders were implementing Talibanism. He accused Azhikode MLA and Muslim Youth League leader K.M. Shaji of being the mastermind behind the hoarding. The CPI(M) leader reiterated that the murder of Abdul Shukkur near Kannapuram by alleged CPI(M) workers had occurred in a clash. Terming the murder unfortunate, Mr. Jayarajan said that the party favoured a fair investigation.
