National executive member of the Communist Party of India Kanam Rajendran has challenged Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and the ruling United Democratic Front to move the “people’s court” over the solar panel scam.

Mr. Rajendran was inaugurating the day-and-night sit-in of the Left Democratic Front on the fourth day, demanding Chief Minister’s resignation and judicial probe into the solar scam, here on Saturday.

Buying time

The CPI leader alleged that the government was buying time to destroy key evidences against the Chief Minister and other Ministers involved in the scam by dragging the investigation and delaying a judicial probe into the entire issue.

Cannot cover up

But Mr. Rajendran said the UDF would never be able to cover up the evidences exposing the involvement of the VIPs in the solar scam, once the images captured through the CCTV were retrieved.

Humbug

He alleged that the United Nations’ Public Service Award conferred on the State government was nothing but humbug. Mr. Rajendran said the LDF never said it did not have faith in the Additional Director General of Police, A. Hemachandran.

But, the front strongly felt that being a senior police official, the ADGP would find it difficult to continue with the investigation at the offices of the Chief Minister and Home Minister and interrogate the Ministers, in connection with the solar scam.

Judicial probe

It was for this reason that the LDF demanded a judicial probe and resignation of Mr. Chandy, he added.

R. Unnikrishna Pillai, CPI(M) State committee member, presided over the meeting. K. Ananthagopan, and Alex Kannamala, LDF district convener, also spoke. CPI(M) leader, Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, will be inaugurating the sit-in on the fifth day on Sunday.
