CPCRI to be venue of science conference

The Swadeshi Science Movement will hold its 22nd Swadeshi Shastra Sammelanam, an indigenous science conference, at the Central Plantation Crops Research Institute (CPCRI) here from November 6 to 8.

A major theme of the programme this year is “Conservation of environment through plantation crops,” CPCRI Director George V. Thomas, who is the chairman of the conference, said at a press conference here on Thursday.

He said papers, in either Malayalam or English, would be presented on topics in agriculture, medical science, biology, physics, chemistry, mathematics, genetics, environmental science, science and technology and traditional science.

The papers should be sent to K. Muraleedharan, secretary general, 22nd Swadeshi Shastra Sammelanam, CPCRI, Kasaragod – 671 124 before August 14, Dr. Thomas said.

He said a person under 35 who authored the best paper would be given the Yuva Shastra Puraskaram (young science award). Those who came out with papers in Malayalam would be given special honours.

The keynote address on the opening day would be on “Contribution of Sreenivasan Ramanujan in Indian mathematical science.” V.N. Rajasekharan Pillai, vice-president of the Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment, would deliver a Dr. C.V. Raman memorial lecture on November 7.
