The remand period of Communist Party of India (Marxist) Kannur district secretary P. Jayarajan, arrested in the Abdul Shukkoor murder case, has been extended till August 27 by the First Class Judicial Magistrate Court-1 here.

Mr. Jayarajan, remanded in custody by the court after his arrest on August 1 by the special investigation team probing the murder of the Indian Union Muslim League worker, was produced before the court on Tuesday when his remand period was to end. Magistrate C. Mujeeb Rahiman extended the remand to two more weeks.

The Magistrate’s order extending Mr. Jayarajan’s remand was seen as a fait accompli in the wake the High Court’s dismissal of his bail application on August 13. His lawyer did not submit a fresh bail application in the court here.
