Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said here on Sunday that all partners of the United Democratic Front (UDF), including the Indian Union Muslim League, would face the coming Lok Sabha elections together in the State.
Mr. Chandy’s statement comes in response to indirect remarks made by Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president Ramesh Chennithala against the Muslim League, saying the Congress should draw a “Lakshman Rekha” to keep forces which promoted casteist and religious divides.
Asserting that the UDF partners were firm in their bond, Mr. Chandy said the Congress and the Muslim League would work together in the upcoming elections. The support of all allies of the front would be ensured to contest the elections.

He said the welfare programmes announced and implemented by the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government at the Centre during the past nine years would be sufficient for victory in the elections. “A UPA government at the Centre is not just the need of political parties but also the collective need of the people,” he said.
Activists of Left youth organisations waved black flags at the Chief Minister at two places as part of their agitation seeking his resignation in the solar scam. The protesters appeared on the road while the Chief Minister was on his way from the Karipur airport to Nalanda Auditorium.
The police had made security arrangements to meet unexpected protests.
