Collector warns of strict action

District Collector S. Harikishore, who is also the District Election Officer, has said that strict action will be taken against those violating the code of conduct prescribed by the Election Commission for the ensuing local body polls.

The Collector was addressing a meeting of the nodal officers in the district convened by the Election Observer (General) V. Sanalkumar at the Collectorate here on Saturday. Mr. Harikishore said the District Election Authority would convene a special meeting to discuss matters concerning the problem-prone polling booths in the district on Tuesday.

Another meeting of the representatives of various political parties would be held on Monday to fix the maximum permissible amount the candidates can spend for their election campaign.

The Election Observer has directed the officials to handle the complaints received over the violation of the poll code in all its seriousness.

Moreover, the candidates should be properly informed that they should keep their accounts statement on the election expenses intact and promptly furnish it before the election authority on demand, Mr. Sanalkumar said.

The nodal officers also apprised the meeting that the District Election Office here has received as many as 20 complaints regarding violation of code of conduct, so far.

A. Shahjahan, M. Ramachandran Nair, Samson John, Election Observers (Expenditure), and Sundaran Achary, Deputy Collector (Election), also attended the meeting.
