Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan visited the house of slain Communist Party of India (Marxist) worker Kannippoyil Babu at his house at Palloor in Mahe in Puducherry on Saturday night.

The Chief Minister reached the house of the bereaved family at 8 p.m. CPI(M) workers were present in large numbers in the area when Mr. Vijayan reached there, accompanied by party district secretary P. Jayarajan and other leaders.

Personnel of the Kerala Police and the Puducherry Police were present in the area during the visit of the Chief Minister. He met the wife and children and other relatives of the slain party worker. The visit lasted nearly 15 minutes.

Babu was hacked to death late May 7. Within a short time, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh worker U.C. Shamej was murdered by suspected CPI(M) workers in a retaliatory attack. Though the Chief Minister’s scheduled visit to the house of the bereaved family of CPI(M) worker Babu was announced on Friday night, there was speculation that he might also visit the family of the slain RSS worker at New Mahe, which is in Kannur district. He, however, did not visit the house of the slain RSS worker.
