CM to make aerial survey today

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will make an aerial survey of the flood-affected areas in Idukki, Ernakulam, Alappuzha, Wayanad, Kozhikode and Malappuram on Saturday. Revenue Minister E. Chandrasekharan, Chief Secretary Tom Jose, State Police Chief Loknath Behra and Additional Chief Secretary P.H. Kurian will accompany the Chief Minister.

An official press note issued here said Mr. Vijayan and his Cabinet colleagues would hold discussions with Union Minister for Home Affairs Rajnath Singh after his visit to the monsoon-ravaged areas in Kerala on Sunday.

A review meeting convened by the Chief Minister here on Friday evening decided to provide safe drinking water to more than 53,500 people shifted to relief camps at various locations across the State. The meeting was informed that 7,500 families would have to be evacuated in Ernakulam district due to the rising water level in the Periyar river.

Governor P. Sathasivam has decided to cancel the ‘At Home’ function to be held at the Raj Bhavan here as part of the Independence Day celebrations on August 15, in view of the monsoon havoc in the State. Mr. Sathasivam has also announced a donation of ₹1,00,000 to the Chief Minister’s relief fund.
