Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan misled the Assembly and the people with his claim that dangerous weapons were not seized from the students’ hostel at Maharajas College, Kochi, former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has said.
Mr. Chandy told reporters here on Saturday that the Chief Minister twisted the facts, though the First Information Report filed by the police said that the weapons recovered were dangerous. He said he was not opposed to campus politics. But, the government should not let such incidents recur, he said.
Mr. Chandy said there was no change in his party’s stand on Kerala Congress (Mani) leader K.M. Mani. The Congress was not happy about the KC(M) decision to tie up with the Communist Party of India (Marxist) in the Kottayam district panchayat and the party had expressed its strong displeasure. Mr. Chandy said the leaders, activists, and sympathisers of the KC(M) too were not pleased about that party’s move.

Earlier, speaking after presenting the K. Chandrasekharan memorial award to M.P. Veerendrakumar, MP, Mr. Chandy said Mr. Veerendrakumar and the late Chandrasekharan had stood for socialist ideals. He praised Mr. Veerendrakumar saying the Janata Dal (United) leader had warned about globalisation much before others realised its drawbacks.
