February 22, 2017 10:57 pm | Updated 10:57 pm IST - Palakkad

Faced with criticism from the student community and women’s organisations, the Education Department has decided to drop its move to launch an awareness drive for girls in high schools in the district about love’s pitfalls.

An order issued by Director of Public Instruction K.V. Mohan Kumar reached the district education office here on Tuesday. The Director also sought an explanation from the district education officer for planning such an initiative without consulting higher officials.

The move, termed discriminatory and ill-motivated by women’s organisations, has evoked widespread condemnation. The move was women-specific and it excluded boys.
