Church row: stand-off continues

The stalemate between the Orthodox and Jacobite factions of the Malankara Church at St. Mary’s Church, Mannamangalam, continued for the second day on Thursday.

While believers of the Orthodox faction, led by Thrissur Bishop Yuhanon Mar Meletios, have been observing a sit-in outside the church gate, Jacobites are conducting a prayer protest inside the church since Wednesday morning.

“The police are closely monitoring the situation,” said District Collector T.V Anupama.

“We will continue the stir until we are allowed to enter the church and conduct prayers,” Mar Meletios said.
