CPI State secretary Pannyan Ravindran has taken exception to the silence on the part of the Chief Minister on the involvement of the Minister for Education in the Calicut University land scam.
Speaking to media persons here on Friday, Mr Ravindran said that the revelations by the University vice chancellor has made it clear that the Education Minister had the knowledge about the land deals.
However, the chief minister and the Congress were keeping a studied silence on the matter, he said.

Alleging that the Congress had degenerated into a subservient partner of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), the CPI leader said that Kerala politics was a model for the nation so far. “The UDF has turned into a mechanism to implement the demands by IUML,” Mr Ravindran said. With the UDF leaders focusing on their party interests there was no one to pay attention on administration, he said and alleged that the administrative machinery has turned into a crowd of Ministers focused only on their self interest.
He said that the reports appearing in the media showed that the case of Kerala has been heavily compromised in the final report of the Supreme Court appointed Empowered Committee. “This clearly showed that the State government had not done their homework well and is now holding on to technicalities,” he said.
The CPI leader also criticised the new policy declared by the KSEB and said the move to restrict power consumption to 300 units would affect one lakh families in the State. Against this backdrop, the LDF would take up the issues concerning the common man, he said.

The CPI leader said that there was no political reason for the by election imposed on the people of Neyyatinkara. The person had not resigned from his party and position espousing the cause of the people but it was a result of the political immorality of the UDF, he said.
Mr Ravindran said that the social organizations had their space in the democratic polity but they should remain confined to that space instead of usurping the space of other institutions, including political parties. To a question, he said that the issue of social justice should be appraised on the basis of the relative benefits received by the various social segments and not on the representation given to each of the segments in the Cabinet.
He said the CPI was a growing party and no one would be allowed to stifle its growth. “Even as we form part of the LDF, we have our own identity,” he said. The party would welcome those who evince interest, as long as they could do good to the society. To another question, Mr Ravindran said the party would welcome even those who come out of other LDF partners. This would help to keep such individuals going into the retrograde camps, he said.
