Chandy seeks Kodiyeri’s apology

October 20, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:48 am IST - KASARAGOD:

CPI(M) State secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan should publicly apologise for justifying the derogatory remarks made by former Congress leader Cherian Philip against women, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has said.

The remarks made by Mr. Philip are highly condemnable and deplorable and he should withdraw his remarks, Mr. Chandy said at a meet-the-press programme here on Monday.

Admitting that the Congress faced difficulties from disenchanted party workers during the seat-allotment process for the local body election, Mr. Chandy said the party would give one more opportunity to rebel candidates to withdraw from the polls.

The leadership would have to serve an ultimatum for initiating disciplinary action if they decided to contest against the party candidates.

Friendly contests

Stating that there are “friendly contests” between UDF partners owing to dispute over seat-sharing, Mr.Chandy warned of action if they entered into an understanding with non-UDF parties.

Arguing that the UDF would have an edge in the election, Mr. Chandy said the ruling alliance would repeat its victory as in the past three Assembly by-elections.
