A CBI special court in Kochi on Tuesday permitted Karayi Rajan, CPI(M) leader and an accused in the Fazal murder case, to stay in Thiruvananthapuram subject to conditions.
The order follows a petition by Mr. Rajan to the court seeking permission to move to the State capital as he has been appointed proof reader with a CPI(M)-run publication. Since the CBI did not raise any objection to his plea, the court permitted Mr. Rajan to relocate on certain conditions.
He has been asked to furnish details of his location in Thiruvananthapuram and will have to report at the nearest police station. The court will seek a report from the local police to ensure that Mr. Rajan abides by the conditions laid down by the court.

The CBI court, while granting bail to Mr. Rajan and others earlier, had directed them not to travel outside Ernakulam district.
Rajan is the eighth accused in the murder case. Fazal, a National Development Front worker from Thalassery, was murdered in October 2006. Though Rajan was elected to the Kannur district panchayat in 2015, he later resigned following the High Court’s decision not to lift the regulations laid on him for entering Kannur district.
