BrahMos Aerospace plans expansion

October 13, 2011 11:41 am | Updated 01:53 pm IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has said that the BrahMos Aerospace here proposes to take up major expansion programmes soon.

He was talking to presspersons after the weekly Cabinet meeting here.

Mr. Chandy said it had been decided to transfer land belonging to the Air Force in Thiruvananthapuram to the company and provide the Air Force with alternative land at Muttathara in the city.

He said the allegations about the privatisation of the company had no basis. The Centre held 50.5 per cent of the shares and the Russian government 49.5 per cent. The registration of a new company was only intended to bypass certain difficulties arising from the treatment of the company as a public sector firm. The company faced no labour problems.

Mr. Chandy said he was not keen to follow up the allegations that prisoners had called Left Democratic Front (LDF) leaders from the Kannur Central Jail during the LDF rule. There were many problems of the people that needed his attention. The law would take its course in such cases, he said.
