BJP worker killed in stir cremated

Last rites held at his residence

Adieu: A procession carrying the mortal remains of BJP worker Chandran Unnithan passing through Pandalam town on Friday afternoon.

The cremation of Bharatiya Janata Party worker Chandran Unnithan who was killed in stone-pelting during a protest march at Pandalam town on Wednesday was held at his residential courtyard at Kurampala, near Pandalam, on Friday afternoon.

BJP workers and Sabarimala Karma Samithi (SKS) activists took the body kept at the mortuary at Pushapagiri Medical College to Pandalam in the forenoon.

A large number of people from the region took part in a funeral procession held from Thonnalloor to Kurampala. K.P. Sasikala, SKS chairperson; P.K. Krishnadas, BJP national council member; B. Radhakrishnan, State secretary; K. Krishnankutty, SKS State coordinator; and Ashokan Kulanada, BJP district president, were among those who took part in the procession.

Three remanded

Meanwhile, Kannan, Aariff, and Aju, three accused in a case registered at the Pandalam police station in connection with the death of Unnithan, were remanded in judicial custody for 14 days on Friday and sent to the Kottarakkara sub-jail. The police claimed them to be DYFI workers.

Deputy Superintendent of Police P.R. Jose said more arrests would be made in the coming days.
