BJP warns against bid to create tension

‘Get views of royal family of Pandalam’

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)State president P.S. Sreedharan Pillai has cautioned against any bid to create tension in Sabarimala and other temples in the wake of the Supreme Court verdict granting entry to women of all ages to the Sabarimala temple.

Mr. Pillai said in a statement here on Friday that due respect should be given to the faith of millions and the commitment to the Constitution should be retained.

‘Evolve consensus’

‘A consensus should be evolved after eliciting the views of the royal family of Pandalam and Hindu organisations.

The BJP is opposed to discrimination against women in places of worship. But due caution should be exercised in not hurting the sentiments of the faithful by upsetting the customs and traditions that have been in vogue for long.

‘Govt has responsibility’

The State government has a great responsibility on this score. But the Left Democratic Front government is protecting those who tend to violate such customs and traditions and this may lead to creating tension in temples.

He condemned the attempts to whip up controversies in the name of customs and traditions in temples and said there was room for filing a review petition.
