A BJP delegation led by Roads and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari met President Pranab Mukherjee over attacks on its party workers in Kerala, allegedly by CPI(M) supporters, after the Assembly elections.
“We have given the President details of these cases, including photographs. Our worker Pramod was killed. Houses of more than 100 workers have been vandalised. Situation is not good. He has assured us that he will take appropriate action,” said Mr. Gadkari after meeting the President.

The delegation included Union Ministers Nirmala Sitharaman, Rajiv Pratap Rudy, J.P. Nadda, Kerala unit chief Kummanam Rajashekharan, and MPs Meenakshi Lekhi and M.J. Akbar. “Unfortunately, the Congress is keeping quiet. This is not good for democracy. We hope that those having faith in democracy will condemn this violence,” he added.
Party workers also demonstrated against the CPI(M) outside A.K. Gopalan Bhavan in New Delhi, the Left party’s headquarters.
The Left Front on its part attacked the BJP and the RSS for targeting its workers and accused the party of misleading the people.

“The CPI(M) very strongly condemns the attacks and vandalism the BJP has organised. It is the BJP and RSS workers who started this bout of violence by attacking a victory procession,” party general secretary Sitaram Yechury said. “This has happened across the State. The BJP is simply not willing to accept the democratic verdict of the people of Kerala.”
