Doctors at a hospital in Mumbai drew blood samples from Binoy Kodiyeri to do a DNA test to find out whether he was the biological parent of the child of a former bar dancer who had accused him of rape and cheating.
Binoy, son of CPM State secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, presented himself before doctors at J.J. Hospital, in Byculla in South Mumbai, after the Bombay High Court ordered him to honour his anticipatory bail condition that he would submit his blood for a DNA test.
Binoy had delayed the submission of his blood sample on the ground that he had moved the High Court to quash the charges slapped against him by the Oshiwara police based on the woman’s petition.

The State’s Forensic Laboratory at Kalina in Mumbai would conduct the test and submit its results in a sealed cover to the HC within a fortnight.
Venue change
The Oshiwara police had directed Binoy to turn up at the Dr. R.N. Cooper Municipal General Hospital at Juhu initially but shifted the venue to J. J. Hospital at the last minute.

The case against Binoy, a Dubai-based businessman, has its provenance in a complaint by a Maharashtra settled woman who accused him of inducing her into a conjugal relationship promising marriage. She alleged that they had a child from the eight-year-old relationship.
Their association soured when the woman learnt Binoy was married and had two children. Binoy’s alleged abandonment of the child and his refusal to afford her and family was the last straw.
The case had riveted public attention in Kerala, and CPI(M) had found itself on the back foot in the face of Opposition charges.
Binoy’s defence
Binoy attempted to defend himself by moving the HC to quash the FIR. The woman’s lawyer objected Binoy’s petition and submitted further evidence of the alleged relationship.
He also alleged in court that Binoy had deliberately delayed submitting to the DNA test ordered by the Dindoshi district court that granted him temporary immunity from arrest in the case. Binoy told reporters in Mumbai that the DNA test would expose the woman’s baseless allegations.
