Biju’s mother moves advance bail plea

Rajammal, mother of Biju Radhakrishnan, moved the Kerala High Court seeking anticipatory bail in a case registered in connection with the death of her daughter-in-law in 2006.

Rajammal, mother of Biju Radhakrishnan, a suspect in the solar scam, on Wednesday moved the Kerala High Court seeking anticipatory bail in a case registered in connection with the death of Biju Radhakrishnan’s wife in 2006.

In her petition, Ms. Rajammal, a retired Headmistress, said she feared her arrest by the police in the case. She had been arraigned as second accused in the case.

Rashmi, wife of her son, was found dead in the bathroom of the house of the petitioner in February 2006.

She said she had been falsely implicated in the case. The police were now trying to arrest her in the case registered seven years ago.

She was innocent. She was aged 65 and suffering from various illnesses, including heart problems.

In fact, the police had summoned and interrogated her on many occasions.

Ms. Rajammal and her son have been charged with offences under Sections 498A (Husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty) 302 (murder) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence, or giving false information to screen an offender) of the Indian Penal Code.

Biju Radhakrishnan was arrested from Coimbatore on June 16 by a team from the Kerala Police.
