Bell of Faith for senior citizen’s safety

The Kollam city police on Saturday launched Bell of Faith, a new project to ensure the safety of senior citizen staying alone.

The project aims at providing immediate help to elderly persons with the help of volunteers staying nearby. If they are in need of any emergency services or there are any health issues, the system will offer them instant support.

As part of the project, remote control devices will be distributed to senior persons staying alone and they can call for help by pressing a button. A volunteer in the neighbourhood will get the alert, making it possible to deliver instant help.

The city police will install the equipment and provide the remote control device free of cost, while Janamaithri beat officers will ensure rest of the assistance. The department has started a drive to spread awareness of the project among residents’ associations in the city.

District Police Chief Merin Joseph distributed the equipment needed for the first phase of the project at the monthly meet held for residents’ associations.

District Special Branch Assistant Commissioner Shihabuddin presided over the function. Additional Deputy Commissioner and nodal officer of Bell Of Faith Muhammed Arif conducted a session to introduce the concept.

Assistant Commissioners George Koshi, Pradeep Kumar, and Vidyadharan, Janamaithri beat officers and representatives of various residents’ associations attended the meeting.
