Baul singers enthral crowds at harvest fest

The wandering Baul singers of West Bengal enthralled the people at the rustic village of Arangottukara with their captivating music at the Njattuvela festival on Friday.

Equipped with traditional instruments, Basu Devidas, Utham Das, Gourchandragarai, Gopinadh Das and Rajkumar Singh from West Bengal played the soulful music.

The two-day harvest festival organised by Arangottukara Patasala has a series of programmes, including paddy harvest, classes on organic farming, discussions, folk art forms, Kathakali, theatre performances, film shows and book releases.

The morning session started with paddy harvesting accompanied with Baul music. Students from nearby schools and colleges joined the local people. For many youngsters it was a novel experience.

Later Tony Thomas of the Kerala Jaiva Karshaka Samity led classes on organic farming.
