Arrangements on for airport work inauguration

Defence Minister to launch work on Sunday

Elaborate arrangements are being made at the Kannur International Airport site, near Mattannur, for a public function in which Defence Minister A.K. Antony will inaugurate the airport construction work on February 2 at 3 p.m.

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will preside and a host of Ministers, including Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation K.C. Venugopal, Union Minister of State for Home Mullappally Ramachandran, State Ministers P.K. Kunhalikkutty, K.M. Mani, K.C. Joseph and K.P. Mohanan will be present.

Officials of Kannur International Airport Ltd. (KIA) said that a helipad had been arranged at the airport project site for the landing of a chopper carrying the Defence Minister and some other dignitaries.

Trial landing of the helicopter would take place on February 1, they said.

A large venue was being arranged for the inaugural function.

Special buses would be operated from different parts of the district for the convenience of people attending the inaugural function.
